In recent years, increasing prominence of digital technologies such as the internet, mobile internet, internet of things, cloud computing and big data brings about great challenges and enormous opportunities for supply chain management. New technologies and internet thinking are dramatically changing the way that supply chain activities are coordinated, controlled and managed, which in turn brings lots of opportunities for the development of innovative business models in both manufacturing and service sectors. Together with the developments in supply chains, new solutions to manufacturing systems also emerge, making manufacturing more efficient, flexible, and intelligent. The concept of intelligence nowadays becomes more relevant because more advanced and efficient manufacturing technologies and management procedures are available to firms and enable them to improve effectiveness and efficiency under conditions of uncertainty. These trends and new developments in supply chain and manufacturing not only propel business practices, but also greatly influence the academic research in supply chain and operations management.
During the conference, we will also organize a high-profiled “Forum of Strategic Supply Chain Thought Leaders”, on which world renowned scholars such as Professor Hau L. Lee from Stanford University and business leaders such as Dr. Victor Fung from Fung Group and Mr. Ruimin Zhang from Haier Group will share their insights on how macroeconomic and technology trends will impact supply chain and opportunities for supply chain and business model innovations.
